“The destination is heaven, but the journey is unknown.”
Are you trying to plan that perfect trip during the summer? Are you looking for something new to do? Do you want teens to be fired up about going? Offer a Mystery Trip!
What? Where are we are going…???…???…??? That’s right. You have a bunch of teens sign up for a trip that they have no clue where they are going. Yes. That’s it. And, here’s why you need to go on a Mystery Trip with your group:
1. Teens Love a Good Mystery!
The trip is an adventure and it is thrilling. Teens love to solve puzzles, make guesses, piece parts together. And, the mystery captivates our minds. We want to know where we are going, what we are going to do. It’s exciting!
This is a great environment to socialize and do relational ministry. What better place is there for core members and teens to interact than in an environment as positive as a youth trip? The trip also serves as an opportunity to invite new members.
3. Stronger Faith
This trip will help strengthen the faith of your group. Though the atmosphere may be lighthearted and focused on fun, there should be a time spent in prayer or at Mass. This serves to strengthen the teenager’s faith, which in turn brings the entire group closer.
Now, you might be wondering… what are some destinations where you can take the group. Depending on the duration of your trip — 1 day or multiple days — this will vary. It’s always a positive to have variety in your schedule and include time for Mass & Rosary. Here are some suggestions:
- National Shrines
- Ropes Course
- Rock Climbing
- Water Parks
- Laser Tag
- Lots more!
Groups that travel together have unforgettable adventures, build lasting relationships and see positive growth and transformation in the lives of young people. And although most youth ministers aren’t travel professionals, a well-planned trip or two can be the highlight of a youth group’s year.
So, where are you going?!
Editor’s Note: Be sure to consult your pastor and Diocesan Office of Youth and Child Protection before planning a mystery trip for your youth.
