Goal for the Life Night:
This night will help teens understand that their actions, either positive or negative, have an impact on the world around them. In particular this night will help teens understand the concept of solidarity and social sin. This night will give the teens concrete ways to practice solidarity in their own lives.
Life Night at a Glance:
This night focuses on how sin has a social effect on the world around us. It is important for the teens to understand how every action they commit affects someone else, especially their sin. While the world teaches that we are all on our own and can do whatever we like, we know that this is not true because we are all connected. Because of this connection, we have to understand the effect we can have on others through sin. It is also important that we learn to forgive one another and live in solidarity – praying for and helping one another to overcome sin. Using a dominoes analogy, we can illustrate the effect of sin and social inaction. The night offers a few options for the Break and Send. Depending on your priests’ availability it would be great to offer Reconciliation as a part of the night. There is an examination of conscience provided to help the teens focus on the social aspect of their sins. If a priest is not available, there is a small group discussion which will give the teens a chance to discuss the social aspects of their sin, as well as reflections use for your Send.
