Mardi Gras

An Edge Social Night

Edge Night Outline

Goal of this Night

The goal of this social night is for the middle school youth to have an opportunity to have fun in a safe and welcoming environment, and to also learn more about the history and Catholic roots of Mardi Gras. Social nights aid in breaking up the catechetical nights and also provide an opportunity to build community not only among the youth but also for the Core Members to continue to get to know the youth.

About this night

This Edge Night is filled with lots of fun Mardi Gras themed games. The night will start off with a brief history of Mardi Gras, which will lead into the games. There are varieties of games to be played as a large group and in small groups.  The night will end with the youth being able to create their own Mardi Gras parade floats.

Before The night

Have all supplies ready to go for the games. Make sure that who ever is going to be directing the games understands how to play them. Also, spend some time making the environment really special with the fun, festive decorations of Mardi Gras.

Go all out Mardi Gras style! Decorate in gold, purple, and green. Most party stores have a plethora of Mardi Gras decorations for a really good price. Some suggestions are balloons, Mardi Gras masks, crepe paper, and streamers.  Anything you have left over from decorating the room you can give to the youth to use to decorate their parade floats.
