Goal for the Life Night:
The goal of this night is to present the Catholic teaching on the use of contraception/birth control and the need for us to live in trusting obedience to the Wisdom of God and the Church.
Life Night at a Glance:
At first glance, many people might be too intimidated to execute this night or mistakenly feel that it does not affect our teens. Do not allow the fullness of the Church’s teaching on this subject to go unshared. Young men and women need the Church’s truth regarding contraception long before they are in a marriage and faced with the reality. The night will begin with a game that requires everyone’s participation, CORE and teens. A Power Point presentation with different questions will force the teens to move around the room, according to their answers. The game of “choices” moves into a fun and non-threatening modernization (of sorts) to the Parable of the Sower and the Seeds. The skit sets a groundwork for openness to God’s truth as you transition into a live debate that functions as the talk for the night. The debate is outlined with the talk notes and will be very effective if properly prepared. Following the debate/talk there will be a large group rap session to answer specific questions and address any issues the teens have concerning contraception. Having a priest and at least one couple who practices NFP available to help answer questions is optimal. Finally, the rap session will move into a period of silent time, followed by a meditation and prayer.
