Objective:
The goal of this session is to have the middle school youth look at the foundations of their identity and faith. Using the Gospel parable of the two foundations, this session will show the importance of basing our identity, hope and faith on the firm foundation of Christ. This can only be done by choosing to act and live in accordance with His Word.
Overview:
Throughout Scripture we are presented with a decision, a choice only we can make: live for ourselves or live for God. It is only in God that the fullness of life can be found, but we continually try and find our meaning and worth in things that fade away. The Old Testament is filled with story after story of the Israelites turning away from God and then returning to him. Over and over again, God calls them back to Himself and makes it clear that this is the most important decision we can make:
I call heaven and earth today to witness against you: I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Choose life, then, that you and your descendants may live, by loving the Lord, your God, heeding his voice, and holding fast to him. (Deuteronomy 30:19-20)
