Goal of the Life Night:
To take a critical look at the amount of time spent daily with various forms of media in relationship to time spent in other activities, especially prayer. The night helps teens recognize what factors shape our identity and encourage teens to seek Christ more deeply. Further, it will develop a broader understanding of stewardship—not just about tithing, but offering back to God the life He has given us.
Life Night at a Glance:
The night begins with an MTV style contest called 6-over-6. Selected contestants will vie for six different prizes by competing in six timed events. The events are geared toward food, fun and insight into media knowledge (almost trivia-like) contestants know. The Youth Minister/CORE member opens the Proclaim with a video or a slide show on how we spend our time. The Youth Minister/CORE member explains what we consume is what we become and suggests a healthy “food guide pyramid” for the dietary guidelines of the spiritual life. During the proclaim teen(s) witness to the struggle and reward of finding more time with the creator of time. During break, teens are given 60 seconds to write down quickly everything they did on one of the previous 6 days. The night ends with a personal commitment to an accountability partner (or between several teens and a CORE member) and a time for teens to pray over/with each other.
