Goal for the Life Night:
The goal for this LIFE Night is to encourage community building and foster a desire and commitment to serve and help others through fun activities and fellowship.
Life Night at a Glance:
This LIFE Night CAN accomplish anything! Everyone CAN do it! To continue the theme of Catholic Social Justice, this LIFE Night aims at putting theory and philosophy into action by raising canned food items for a local food pantry or needy group.
To encourage maximum participation, the youth group will have a boys vs. girls competition to raise the food, with prizes and fun activities! The boys and girls will be given a week or two to raise as much food as possible. If possible, keep the food in opposite corners of the youth room so that when the room is used it will continue to spark competition and be a constant reminder of the competition at hand. If a group can visually see that they are losing they will be more ready to compete to win. Gender pride comes into play!
After the totaling of the canned food the boys and girls will combine into smaller co-ed groups for some fun, CANny activities, and at the end of the night there will be a dinner provided by the Youth Minister and served by the losing team,. Suggest that every teen bring a side dish or dessert – that way you can take care of the main dish! (A BBQ cookout would be great here!) Make sure to have the food for everyone even though the losing team has to serve and clean up after it is over. *
*If you don’t want to provide a full dinner, snacks and desserts would work as well.
