What can happen when an entire family comes together for one night?
Ever wonder how your program can make a positive impact in your community?
Can we collect and donate 50,000 lbs. of clothes as a Life Teen family?
These questions will be answered on September 28, 2008. This is the date of our first-ever international Life Night. Our goal is to have every Life Teen parish around the world to do this Life Night on the same Sunday night and join together in serving the community.
As you plan your fall semester, we ask you to consider putting this night on your calendar for September 28th. Why September 28th? It is the day after the feast of St. Vincent de Paul and the clothing collected this night will go to the local St. Vincent de Paul Chapter in your area. This is a great opportunity to show the teens that they are part of the larger Life Teen movement and join together with teenagers all over the world to make a positive impact. This is also another opportunity to break open this year’s theme: Consumed by Grace. We are called to charity – to love as God has loved us. The only way we can truly live charity is to be consumed by God’s grace, His very life.
Goal for the Life Night:
This night will help teens look at the excess that often crowds our lives and how excess (both physical and spiritual) often leaves no room for God. Through a clothing drive, this night will give the teens an opportunity to share their possessions with the less fortunate and learn how charity and service are vital parts of an active faith life. Finally, this night will help the teens to connect with the larger Life Teen community.
Life Night at a Glance:
This Life Night has the opportunity to be a monumental event for Life Teen! The goal is to have all 1,000+ Life Teen parishes doing this Life Night on the same night. Each parish will hold its own clothing drive and send all the clothes to the local chapter of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. We are asking that each parish weigh the donations and email total weight along with pictures to Tricia Tembreull at triciat@lifeteen.com. The goal is to collectively donate over 50,000 lbs. of clothes to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. In order to reach that goal we need everyone’s help! We will feature pictures from all the parishes that did this Life Night on www.lifeteen.com – so make sure to send in pictures!
This night starts with a funny look at the mess and clutter that often fills teenagers’ lives. The teaching for the night will focus on how the “stuff” in our lives often leaves no room for God or others. The teaching will explain the Church’s “preferential option for the poor” and how we are all called to serve the poor and become “poor in spirit.” Then the whole group will get to help weigh-in the clothing donations. Small group discussions will give the teens to take an honest look at the role of service and charity in their lives. Finally the night ends with Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and a reflection of the poverty that Jesus chose in order to be united with us.
