Goal for the Life Night:
The goal of this Life Night is to give teens an awareness of the effects of poverty in their own community, in particular the issue of hunger and lack of proper nutrition. This Life Night will call them to action through a food drive and to prayer through a challenge to fast. Finally, this Life Night will help connect teens to the larger Life Teen family.
Life Night at a Glance:
When planning your fall semester, try to set aside September 27, 2009 for this Life Night. If that is not possible, try to plan to do this Life Night as close to that date as possible. The reason for this is to unite the entire Life Teen family in this common experience and mission.
Once you have set the date for the Life Night, choose the organization where the food will be donated. If possible, connect with the local St. Vincent de Paul chapter and donate to their food pantry. If that is not possible, choose a local food bank or soup kitchen to work with. If your parish has a monthly food drive, connect with the organizers and offer to work together for the month of September.
This would also be a great night to come together with other Life Teen parishes in your area and do an area-wide Life Night! Call the other youth ministers well in advance to plan out the logistics such as location, transportation, etc. This could be a great opportunity for the teens from the different parishes to get to know one another!
