I recently got an email from friend with the tag line – “Give without remembering – receive without forgetting”. I love this as it captures the heart of a servant and our need to give without anything attached, no desire for future favors or ever being recognized as a giver. It also reminds us that we are to be grateful for all the blessings we receive.
Lately I have been trying to work on both parts. I love to give, many of us struggle at times making it giving that has no strings attached, giving without needing someone to acknowledge our gift or hoping someone likes us better for giving. Pray every day that God will help you to give on His behalf and not yours that day.
I once heard a homily that reminded us as servants our capacity to give is often limited by our capacity to receive. For me receiving comes fairly easy, it’s the remembering to say “Thank You” part that often gets dropped. Life is so full and we are often moving from one event to the next. If we don’t stop and give thanks for all the blessings in our lives, we can become numb and less in awe of God. Pray every day that you won’t forget to be thankful for everything you receive that day.
So give without remembering, receive without forgetting – it seems so simple! How are you doing with this?
