Goal for the Life Night:
This Life Night will explore the social dimensions of the fourth and fifth commandments. The goal for this night is for the teens to be aware of the factors that destroy the culture of life on the global level. Finally, this Life Night will show how acting locally can have a global impact.
Life Night at a Glance:
Through the gift of technology and media, we are truly a global village. We cannot pretend not to know about the strife, war and poverty around the world. We turn on the news and are bombarded by the events of the world. But does all this knowledge move us to action? The call of every Christian is to care for our brothers and sisters as ourselves; this includes our brothers and sisters in different countries. This Life Night will help the teens understand that call to action and how to respond to it. This night begins with a relay race to demonstrate the struggle of many to get the basic necessities of life. This will lead into the Proclaim, which focuses on what the Church teaches about the role of government in upholding the dignity of human life. The Break for the night will give the teens an opportunity to learn and discuss the specific issues of migration, famine and peace building. The Send of the night will show the teens how they are called to bring a civilization of light and love in the midst of the culture of death. It will also give them a practical way to stand in solidarity with their brothers and sisters through buying Fair Trade products.
