The homily had just finished with a reflection of how peaceful Mary was in the face of some pretty disturbing things in her life. Just then the man sitting next to me at Mass leans over and says – ” If you have faith – the peace will be there”. I sat for a minute after Mass thinking about how right he was. The people I know who are most peaceful are the people I know who have the most faith in God.

A few years ago I started signing every letter and email with the word “Peace”. I journal a lot and through some of my journal entries really felt that the Lord was wanting me to encourage people to peace in a deeper way by closing my correspondences this way. At first I thought it read as a trite term to use, similar to how people respond to the peace sign when they see it in print. I know the Lord was encouraging me for deeper reasons, just not completely sure how I am supposed to get the word across as more than something nice to put at the bottom of a message. As I reflect on my own faith journey, I am definitely the most peaceful when I am trusting in God or in other words having faith. I work on this daily and in no way have it completely down. Imagine how peaceful we could be if we truly had faith that God is in charge, taking care of the things that He always has and will always be taking care of.

Think about it – are the people in your life who have the most peace the same people who you would say have the most faith? Where are you in your trusting in God and having faith that He is wanting the best for you? What’s one area that today you need to trust God with so you could have more peace?
