Objective:
The middle school youth will understand that all are made in the image and likeness of God and that each human person has dignity.
Overview:
*Please note: This Edge session will address specifically being made in God’s image and likeness. There is another Edge night that deals
more directly with how we treat others as well as one that deals with the threats of human dignity: abortion, stem-cell research and euthanasia.
Understanding that all are made in the image and likeness of God is foundational to the understanding and application of the Catholic social teachings. Every human being has dignity, not because of something we have done, but because we are created by our good and just God. In Genesis, “Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness’” (1:26). Because we are made in His image, our dignity cannot be taken away from us. The Catechism affirms this: “The dignity of the human person is rooted in his creation in the image and likeness of God” (1700).
