Every four months something special happens: The new Life Support Box arrives at your parish full of new Life Nights, retreats, and other resources that help make your youth ministry great. As a youth minister, I always looked forward to receiving that box of resources, but a part of me was always sad – I would need to wait another four months for new resources.
This past year, after praying over how we could improve our Life Support to help it serve parishes even more effectively, we decided to introduce something new. During the months that we aren’t shipping Life Support, we will be releasing an exclusive, “online only” Life Night for our subscribing parishes.
Each month on CatholicYouthMinistry.com we will have a brand new Life Night for you to use at your parish. Some nights may relate directly to a holy day or liturgical season, others may be an issue or social night that you can use anytime. Occasionally, we will include a Life Night that you can use as a small group bible study. Each month will bring something new and exciting, exclusively online.
Our first Life Night is about modern idolatry. When teenagers hear about an “idol” they probably are thinking about Phillip Phillips or Jordin Sparks, not about a golden statue of a foreign god. Teenagers have plenty of idols that they do worship, though they are not made of gold or stone. Popularity, money, and relationships all can become an “idol” to a teenager when they put those things above God.
This Life Night challenges teenagers to honestly examine their lives and discern how they have put created things above the creator, and how to reprioritize their lives to put God before all else.
We hope that this Life Night blesses your parish ministry and challenges your teenagers to grow closer to Christ. Know that we are always praying for you, and if you ever have questions, want to share a glory story, or just need to talk, we are here for you. God bless!
