A Royal Pain
Life Night Outline
Goal of this Night
The goal of this Life Night is to help the teens recognize that, while we all experience suffering at some point, it does not have to be in vain. Because Jesus Christ became incarnate, He could unite Himself with our suffering and give it new meaning. Although suffering is never easy, it always offers an opportunity for grace to abound and for saints to rise up from the ashes.
About this night
The night will show that, in Christ, suffering has a great meaning and purpose. It will start out with an icebreaker that demonstrates we are not meant to suffer alone, but rather with a community where we can overcome things together. The Proclaim will feature witnesses from those who have experienced suffering or worked with those who have. The night will end with a focus on Divine Mercy and a call to action to help others overcome suffering.
Tonight we talked about suffering. Nobody wants to experience suffering, but it is an inevitable human reality. We focused on the cross as our hope in suffering, reminded that suffering and death leads to resurrection. Many teens and adults struggle to see how God can be all loving when we see so much pain in the world today. The teens left tonight knowing that God does not create pain and that He does not want us to suffer. We suffer as a result of sin and the broken nature of our humanity. Jesus Christ redeemed suffering on the cross. With the help of Jesus Christ, our suffering, can be an opportunity for extending the love of the Father to those who do not know Him. This is only accomplished through the power of the Holy Spirit and the humility and faith that comes with an active prayer life.
The environment for this night should be particularly bare and free of decorations. In the front of the room, have a large crucifix set up. If you cannot find a large crucifix, find or make a large cross to set up in the front of the room. For the teaching, you will need a projector and screen set up to show the suggested video.
