Freedom of Religion
Life Night Outline
Goal of this Night
The goal for this night is to understand and appreciate the freedom to worship God. This night will also look at the places in the world where this freedom is threatened.
About this night
This Life Night explores the fundamental human right to seek truth, express faith and worship God. This is a freedom that many teens take for granted. Our culture can often threaten religious freedom in subtle ways, mocking or silencing religious expression. This night will challenge the teens to appreciate and use the freedoms given to them by God. The night starts with a mock “raid” of the Life Night, kicking them out because they are talking about Christ. This will lead into a large group discussion and teaching on religious freedom, both here and in other countries. The Break is a time for the teens to reflect and pray on how they freely choose to love and serve God. Finally, the night will end with a time of worship led by the music minister.
This Life Night explored the fundamental human right to seek truth, express faith and worship God. This is a freedom that many people take for granted. Our culture can often threaten religious freedom in subtle ways, mocking or silencing any religious expression outside of Church. At the end of the Life Night, your teen was challenged to freely and openly respond to the love that God freely gave them. Use the following questions to spark a discussion with your teen this week:
- Why is freedom of religion important?
- Do you feel free to live out your faith? Where are you not free?
- How can we as a family worship and pray together?
This Life Night will be held in three different locations. The first space should be your regular meeting space. It should be very bare and anything that could be considered Catholic or religious should be removed or covered up. The second space should be another meeting space on the parish grounds. If possible, it should be a more secluded room and smaller than your regular meeting space. The environment in this room should be secretive – i.e. guards at the doors, signs covered up, etc. The final space is the church sanctuary. The Life Night will end there.
