Kingdom Come

Miracles & the Kingdom of God / Gospels of Luke & Matthew

Life Night Outline

Goal of this Night

The goal of this night is to help the teens see how the Kingdom of God is proclaimed by Christ in His words (parables) and His actions (miracles), specifically in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. The teens will see how miracles are still happening in their own lives and be given practical ways to apply Jesus’ teachings.

About this night

Jesus came to proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom of God in our midst. He used parables to help us understand the Kingdom and performed miracles as a sign of the coming of the Kingdom. This Life Night will focus on the parables and miracles in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. It starts with a humorous interruption by two characters leading into a “man on the street” video about miracles and kingdoms. The teaching for the night will break open the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. During the Break, the teens will have the opportunity to read and reflect on different miracle stories. Finally, the Send involves praying for God’s Kingdom to become more visible on Earth.

Parental Notice

This Life Night is on Jesus’ proclamation of the Kingdom of God with parables and miracles. The kingdom of God is both here and in heaven and unlike any earthly kingdom. Miracles were not simply limited to the time of Jesus, they are still happening and are meant to call us back to God. Some possible discussion questions for you and your teen:

  1. Do you believe in miracles? What miracles have happened in your life?
  2. Where is the Kingdom of God?
  3. How can we as a family help make the Kingdom of God more real in our home?

Environment

The Kingdom of God is at hand! This was the central message of the three years of Jesus’ public ministry. But the kingdom that Jesus preached was not the kingdom that people expected. The environment for this night will highlight the traditional view of a kingdom: castles, thrones, flags, kings and princesses. Use this as the major backdrop of the Life Night room, but hidden within the “kingdom” have some of the things that Jesus used to describe the kingdom: coins, mustard seed, yeast, fig tree, etc.
