Holiness and Discipleship
Life Night Outline
Goal of this Night
To have the teens understand that holiness is what we are created for and that the only way to holiness is through being a disciple of Jesus.
About this night
This Life Night challenges teenagers to understand authentic discipleship through the cross. The Life Night begins with an upbeat game called “Squishy Fishy.” The Proclaim addresses how we attain holiness through becoming disciples of Jesus Christ, making this connection to the teenagers’ daily lives. After the teaching, the teens will move into small group discussion. During the Send, teenagers will gather back in the main meeting room to pray with each other in their small groups and be challenged to uphold each other as disciples within their community.
This week at Life Night we discussed our call to holiness and to be a disciple of Christ in order to be holy. Jesus gives us the conditions for discipleship, “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23). Discipleship is not always easy, and this week we learned that we are called to know the hardships in our lives and embrace them by uniting them to Jesus through his cross.
Have a nautical theme throughout the room. The idea is to set the room up to look like the encounter of Jesus and Peter on Peter’s boat. Hang items like a net, life preserver, and a few paddles on the walls. For extra effect have a small boat placed at the front of the room. You can have the Core Members dressed up in fishing gear like water waders and holding a fishing pole. Have one Core Member dress like a boat caption with a captain’s hat, white pants, boat shoes, and a blazer. Add some humor by having a Core Member in children’s “water wings” as well. Hang fish cut out from construction paper supported by fishing line from the ceiling. The more fish and color the more effective the environment will be.
