(Not So) Surprise Ending

The Resurrection and Ascension

Life Night Outline

Goal of this Night

The goal for this Life Night is to explore the truth of Jesus’ Resurrection and the significance of this in the teens’ everyday lives. This Life Night will also challenge the teens to have hope in Christ and look forward to their resurrection through Him.

About this night

This Life Night is written to follow Life Night “Darkness,” which reflects on the Passion and Death of Christ. The Gather invites teenagers to share any “good news” they have from the past week or month. This sharing leads into a short video that prefaces the Resurrection teaching. The Proclaim looks at the hope the Resurrection introduced into human history, as well as the hope it brings into each individual life. During the Break teens have a small group discussion that examines the ways that our hope in the Resurrection changes our thoughts, minds, and actions. Finally, the Life Night ends by challenging the teenagers to spend some time recalling how the risen Christ is made known to us through the Eucharist. The night will close with Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

Parental Notice

This week’s Life Night was about the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and His ascension into heaven. On Easter we celebrate our salvation; God has defeated sin and death. The teens had the opportunity to look at how their lives are changed because of the hope of the Resurrection.  Here are some questions that can be used to discuss the Life Night with your teenage son or daughter:

  • Why is the Resurrection of Jesus a big deal? What does it mean to you?
  • What does it mean to be a “person of hope”?  Where does your hope come from?
  • If Christ’s Resurrection is the foundation of our hope, how should our lives change?

Environment

The environment for this night should be bright and full of life. Bring in some plants and white flowers to spread around the room. A great way to do this is to see if there are any weddings at your parish that weekend that would be willing to donate some of their leftover flowers. In the front of the room, have a large cross draped with a white cloth. In front of the white cloth have a large lit candle. Have energetic worship music playing as the teens enter the main meeting room. Set up a screen and projector for the video during the Proclaim.
