Goal for the Life Night:
By the end of the night, the teens will begin to understand the truth about our sexuality, which “image” God and His love for us. Note: It is extremely important that AT A MINIMUM the youth minister and CORE Members on the night understand the basic concepts of John Paul II’s Theology of the Body, for this night. There is a special feature on www.lifeteen.com about the Theology of the Body, as well as an issue of LIFE Teen’s The Pulse (Volume 3, Spring 2004), which might prove helpful. It will be to the teens’ benefit if the entire CORE can meet, read, and discuss the first chapter of Christopher West’s “Good News about Sex and Marriage” before the night, so that everyone is on the same page. Because this is such a controversial topic, which will lead to intense discussion, Satan will try to take this positive message to distort and confuse the teens. Therefore, it is imperative that PRAYER and PREPARATION be emphasized on this night particularly.
Life Night at a Glance:
The night opens with what might seem like a “confusing” or “random” environment, loud music and a lot of fun in a gathering relay competition involving eggs. The night then quickly transitions into a teaching that will appear “light” because of the way it has been set up by the “gather” portion of the night. The tone quickly changes, however. In the middle of the teaching, the lights will drop and a voice will read the creation of man from Genesis. Immediately a video (entitled “What really happened in the Garden”, included in I.V. Loop #4) depicting Adam and Eve in a confession-type interview (in the style of MTV’s Real World) will be shown. They begin talking about the gift that each was. Then they discuss how sin entered the equation, destroying the gift, design, and intention of God for both sexes. The video ends on a sour note with there being no hope.
