Goal for the Life Night:
To demonstrate that marginalizing others is contrary to the Gospel of Jesus. The night will help acknowledge the overwhelming pressure to “fit in” which often leaves many of their peers on the outside looking in. They will see how their actions can either welcome or marginalize others, while reaffirming that “not marginalizing” does not necessarily mean “condoning”.
Life Night at a Glance:
This is a night that most teenagers won’t forget. The night begins by separating the teenagers into different groups and talking about how the groups that we have in today’s world are similar to what was happening in Jesus’ time. Then the night moves into the teaching that talks about the people that we avoid and how we push them out of our lives because we lack mercy. The teaching leads into the break that focuses on how Christ was marginalized from even those he loved. The teenagers then participate in a powerful crucifixion experience in which they will be asked to meditate on what Christ did for us. After the break they are lead into the chapel/church for a time of prayer and forgiveness. This night allows the teenagers to make a firm commitment to reach out of their comfort zones and love those who are pushed outside of their group of friends.
