Goal for the Life Night:
Based off of Christ’s own ministry, The Church teaches a preferential option and love for the poor. Using the 10th commandment as a foundation this Life Night will help the teens understand the true purpose of wealth and material goods. This Life Night will also help humanize the plight of the poor and the homeless.
Life Night at a Glance:
In His public ministry, Jesus spent a lot of time talking about and visiting the poor. He Himself was born into poverty! So what’s the big deal with the poor? This night will look at the Church’s “preferential option for the poor” and help the teens see what the poor can teach us about truly loving God. The night begins with a powerful activity that will help the teens understand the harsh reality of poverty. The teaching for this night opens with a video that will give the teens a glimpse into the life and mind of a homeless man. The teaching will focus on the need to reach out and care for the poor. The Break allows the teens to respond to what they saw in the video and heard in the teaching in a small group setting. The night will close by giving the teens a chance to pray for the poor and recognize their own poverty and need for God.
