To help the middle school youth understand that morality is not about following a set of rules, but rather it is a response to God’s call for us to be in a relationship with Him.
Edge Night at a Glance
Morality is not about following rules or the big, bad bully God is going to smite you and send you to Hell. Actually, quite the contrary. God has created us in His image and with that, has written the moral law into our hearts. Our life is fulfilled and full of joy when we follow the purpose for which we were created, which is when we follow the moral law. Morality is an invitation by God for a relationship with Him. He gives us free will and an intellect to choose to love Him or not through the moral law. This Edge night will seek to debunk the myth that God gives us rules and commandments to make us unhappy. It will show how following the order that God created actually brings us to happiness with Him. The night starts with a game of freeze tag that will have each middle school youth following their own set of rules. The game should end in chaos with everyone frustrated. A talk will follow that explains how we are created with a moral law written in our hearts and we are most fulfilled when we follow it. The break and send section of the night will focus on putting morality in the light of a relationship with Jesus Christ.
