Goal for the Life Night:
Discuss the many roles that alcohol plays and the effects it has on lives and how teenagers can approach the many uses and abuses of alcohol with compassion and conviction.
Life Night at a Glance:
This Night is modeled after a competitive cooking show on the Food Network called “Iron Chef”. Originally created and filmed in Japan, it is now being rebroadcast with an English voice over. There are three Iron Chefs who are supposedly the best Italian, French and Chinese chefs in all of Japan. Contestants come onto the show and challenge one of the chefs to a cook off. Then the “Chairman,” who is the host of the show, reveals the secret ingredient for that episode. It could be squid or strawberries, really anything. Then the chefs have one hour to create 4-5 dishes incorporating the secret ingredient into each dish. Then a panel of Japanese movie stars and news personalities taste and rate the dishes. At the end a winner is declared. This show has quite the cult following on college campuses and among young people with a lot of time on their hands. There are many a laugh due to the voice over and the fake announcers. During the show they have play by play of the chefs boiling carrots and every other odd cooking action. It really is hilarious. During this LIFE Night the teens will be breaking down into small groups and have alcohol added to different social situations and see
how they come out. They will have the opportunity to come up with the outcomes and the consequences of adding alcohol to their lives. It might be a good idea for the Core Members in charge of this evening to take the time to watch the show. It will give them good ideas for the Environment and how each character on the show acts. It will also help them to create the skit/video.
