Are you ready to fine-tune your skills?
March has always been one of my favorite months of the year. Not only is the weather beautiful, but, living in Phoenix, I have always been able to enjoy the Cactus League. Every year, 15 Major League Baseball teams spend a month preparing for the upcoming season. While I love watching the rookies try with all their might in hopes of making it to the Big Leagues, for me, it has always been special to watch the veterans fine tune their skills. Being a great baseball player is not just something that you’re born with. You have to work on it.
You have to develop yourself in baseball, and the same is true in youth ministry. While you may have been around for a few years, it is essential to continue to develop your skills if you want to go from being a good Youth Minister to a great one. At the end of March, you have a great opportunity to do just that at the annual Life Teen Spring Training. Here are 4 reasons why you veterans should join us:
- Learn How to Hit a “Curveball”: Most batters can hit a normal fastball, but it’s the curveballs that separate the good hitters from the great ones. Let’s face it. We can get thrown a lot of curveballs in youth ministry. At Life Teen Spring Training, we’ll break open those difficult or unexpected ministry moments with a session on dealing with tragedies to help you be better prepared when curveballs come your way.
- Work on a New Pitch: Every spring, many pitchers work on new pitches to help them get batters out. While we won’t be teaching you how to throw a slider, we will help you work on some new “pitches” to lead teens into an even deeper relationship with Christ. Perhaps you’ve been doing good relational ministry, Retreats, and Life Nights/Edge nights. This year we’ll help you work on some new things to take your ministry to the next level. With sessions on Evaluating Your Ministry, Relational Discipleship, and Planning Mission Trips and Service Projects, you’ll gain some new “pitches” to help teens grow deeper in the Catholic faith.
- Prepare for the Upcoming “Season”: While baseball seasons begin and end, ministry never does. Every time we encounter teenagers, we have an opportunity to lead them closer to Christ. Because of this great responsibility, we need to make sure that we are prepared. This means not only do we need to get consistent training, but we also need to make sure we spend lots of time in prayer. Life Teen Spring Training will not only be about planning your ministry calendar, but it will also offer time for prayer, Mass, and Reconciliation to feed your heart and soul with the proper nourishment to fulfill the call God has placed on our hearts.
- Swing for the Fences: There isn’t a manager in Major League Baseball who would tell their player to swing for the fences every time they come to bat. At Life Teen we think the exact opposite. At this year’s Spring Training Conference, we’ll encourage you to swing for the fences, dream big, and set goals to help you hit homeruns in your ministry.
Come join us March 28-April 1st for our Spring Training Conference at our camp Covecrest in Tiger, GA. We hope to see all of you Youth Ministry veterans out there to take your ministry to the next level.
