Objective:
The middle school youth will develop a deeper awareness of the teachings of the Catholic Church and the importance of knowing the faith.
Overview:
KNOWING THE FAITH : St. Jerome said that “Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ.” St. Anthony’s life was filled with a deep study of Sacred Scripture that lead to an extraordinary relationship with Christ. His knowledge of Scripture and Catholic doctrine helped to dispel heresies that threatened the Church. From St. Anthony’s example, we see the importance of knowing our faith – not for the sake of argument, but for the sake of edification. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states:
Catechesis is an education in the faith of children, young people and adults which includes especially the teaching of Christian doctrine imparted, generally speaking, in an organic and systematic way, with a view to initiating the hearers into the fullness of Christian life.8 (#5)
The more we know about our Catholic faith, the more we know Christ.
