Stuff Youth Ministers Like: The Finale “YM’s vs. Food”

Any good series must eventually come to an end. Lord of the Rings, Rocky, and Seinfeld all eventually had to conclude, which means, yes, one day we will all face the depressing reality that the same fate will plague Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. (I’ll give you second to let the sink in.)

Okay. Hopefully you’re able to get over that, and if not, well, good luck in life. But, now I must break more potentially devastating news: this will be the final “Stuff Youth Ministers Like” post. (Dry your eyes. It’s gonna be okay.)

While we hope you have enjoyed our regular satirical ramblings about the obscure culture of youth ministry, we’ve decided that it’s time to move on to other things, you know, like “getting a real job.” (Just kidding. We love our jobs here.)

In all seriousness, we decided that it would be best to go out with a bang. So, here you go, for your viewing pleasure we’ve combined many of your favorite Stuff Youth Ministers Like posts into one epic video called YMs vs. Food. We hope you enjoy!!!

Question: Which previous Stuff Youth Ministers Like posts were referenced in the video? Whoever names them all wins a prize. (Share below.)

I think I noticed: 1 plaid shirt, 2 pizza 3 apple devices 4 car as an office 5 conversations about being broke 6 citing Scripture 7 caffeine in the pop 8 saying awesome. This was quite entertaining-is it strange that it made me want pizza?

    1. avatar Eric Porteous says:

Not bad. You’re missing a couple, but you got the majority.

I absolutely love these posts because of how spot on they are to YM culture! Here is what I saw: (1)plaid shirt (2) retreat shirt (3)car as office (4) “I’m poor” convo (5) apple products (6) gross icebreakers (I mean, really, eating that much pizza in a short time isn’t gross?) (7)pizza (8)caffeine (9) Saying “awesome (10)complaining (11)citing scripture and (12) teens — those rooting for you! Great post guys!

    1. avatar Eric Porteous says:

Thanks Annie! Great job picking them out. We didn’t include Teens or Gross Icebreakers in the official ones, but I like your connections.

    What I got was…

    1. plaid shirt
    2. using car as office
    3. “I’m poor”
    4. donations? (since Life Teen was paying)
    5. pizza
    6. caffeine
    7. apple products
    8. complaining
    9. “Awesome”
    10. retreat t-shirt
and I’m going out on a limb here but was that a teen (11) cheering you on?

And yes… this made me crave pizza too. Good job, guys!

    1. avatar Eric Porteous says:

      Dayna,

Good job. We didn’t include Donations as one, and that was actually one of our fellow staff members cheering us on. There was only one you missed: Citing Scripture.

I started feeling bad for you both – ended feeling bad for the toilet and both of your wives. Though I will say that I was holding out for a puking rally from Joel there at the end. :)

    1. avatar Eric Porteous says:

Good job Kristin! And thank you for praying for us and our wives. We all needed it. I was hoping Joel would rally, but it was not to be. On my end, I didn’t eat dinner that night, and just had a piece of fruit for breakfast the next day. I really didn’t eat again until lunch the next day. So fun!

Pizza, plaid shirt, “I’m poor” conversations, using their car as an office, saying “awesome”, caffeine, apple products, citing scripture, retreat t-shirts, and complaining

      Good job Catie!

    This was painful.
