More Opportunities to Experience Summer Camp: Register Now!

2012-1_CYM-Camp

Before we gave this option an enthusiastic “yes!” we had to make sure the quality of experience would be similar to our other camps. Dedicated summer missionaries, families, and staff: absolutely. An obstacle course, mud pit, high and low ropes course, and waterslide: yes. A true Catholic identity with dynamic programming: of course. Then we looked at the unique features of this camp: from the beautiful waterfalls, proximity to the Appalachian Trail, and organic farm, it is an ideal environment to host camp. We prayed and held several site visits with the camp and knew we had to take this leap of faith. Now we are introducing a brand new Life Teen and Edge summer camp: Camp Covecrest – Hiawassee.

Sheep Dogs: My Model For Ministry

My model for youth ministry has four legs and a wet nose. Back when I was a baby Core Member, I attended my first Life Teen Conference in Mesa, AZ in June of 1999. Of all the messages of that week one has stuck with me and has been my constant model for youth ministry for 13 years and will continue to be so.

Summer Camp – It’s Not Just for Teens

As I sit here in the beautiful and peaceful mountains of North Georgia for the 7th summer in a row, I realize that there is one thing that I put on the calendar every year that’s as much for me as it is for the teens. And, that is our summer camp week at Covecrest. It’s a soul-changing, prayer-deepening, ministry reviving week for them and for me. Thanks to the hard work, energy and prayers of the amazing staff here, summer camp is great for teens and the adults who bring them.

Ready or Not, It’s Summer Trip Season!

It’s 5:00am on a quiet June morning. I am driving a fifteen-passenger van to a church with a bunch of butterflies in my stomach. This could only mean one thing: a teen summer trip is about to happen. For me, it wasn’t just any summer trip. It was my first one. We were going to summer camp at Covecrest with my Edge teens. I thought to myself, “Can I do this?” Well, I was about to find out as I pulled into the parking lot to greet the parents and teens that had already arrived.

Snowing at Camp Tepeyac!

Although both of our summer camps are in the sun belt, they both get snow in the winter. Tepeyac is near 6500 feet, so when it rains in Phoenix, it SNOWS in Prescott. Check out some photos Wade and Cathy snapped for us at up camp Tepeyac. Let it snow! Who brought a sled? If you want to bring your youth group to Tepeyac this summer, check out the dates on camps.lifeteen.com. We can’t promise snow in July and August, but we can offer a powerful, life-changing experience for your teenagers. Don’t

New Water Building at Covecrest

My hometown is a short drive from Covecrest, Life Teen’s camp in the mountains of northeast Georgia. Since retirement, my father Steve Smith has become a regular at camp. Early in 2007 he led a small team that built an outdoor amphitheater by the lake. To finish out the year, Dad built a water house to hold reserves to operate the camp for a day, should the water system go out for some reason. Check out the pictures: Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Fancy Trusses that would make Norm Abram proud While
