Objective:
The middle school youth will come to a greater understanding of the Season of Advent and what Catholics do in preparation for Christmas and the Second Coming of Christ.
Overview:
Luke 3:3-6 states:
“And he (John) went into all the region about the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, ‘The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low, and the crooked shall be made straight; and the rough ways shall be made smooth; and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.’”
The Season of Advent is a four-week period of time the Catholic Church gives us to contemplate and examine our spiritual lives. As a Church, we prepare not only for Christmas Day, but more importantly, for the Second Coming of Jesus. Advent is not just a time of remembering what took place in Bethlehem, but it looks forward to Jesus’ coming at the end of time.
