The Second Coming of Christ

Keywords: | |

Objective:

The middle school youth will discover the Catholic Church’s beliefs regarding the Second Coming of Christ and how to prepare spiritually for His return.

Overview:

As Catholics, our idea of the Second Coming of Christ can be heavily influenced by our Protestant brothers and sisters. There are television shows dedicated to opening the book of Revelation and revealing the horrors of the end times. A very popular fictional book series sold millions of copies by describing a group of people who were left behind after the Second Coming. People have also made great predictions as to the day and time of Jesus’ return, but none have proven true.

In the Creed we profess at Mass, we say, “He will come again to judge the living and the dead.” As a Church, we believe Jesus will come again, but no one knows the day or the hour (Matt 24:36). Jesus did not explicitly declare when the end of the world was coming, rather He told His followers to always be prepared.
